Tasty Trickery

Broccoli, cultivar unknownImage via WikipediaSo...by way of parenting mistakes put a tally mark on my side of the score board. I've introduced Lucy to junk food and now have a heck of a time getting her to eat vegetables. When she first started eating solids she would eat anything and everything and I thought, "I'm not going to need that Deceptively Delicious-I have a perfect baby who will eat whatever I put in front of her." However...like her mother, once she had the taste for "carbs," nothing else mattered. I try to give the vegetables first but usually they just end up on the floor...so the other day we were having reheated pizza for lunch, I needed her to eat some broccoli with it as well so I "butterflied," the pizza and "buttered" it with pureed broccoli. She had no idea. Today I thought I had a similar idea when I added green beans to her macaroni and cheese. I put some on her tray, went into the kitchen to dish some out for myself, came back and her tray was clean-she had eaten the beans with the noodles...or so I thought. When we were finished eating I took her bib off to find that she had slipped the green beans down her shirt. Can you believe it? What a sneaky-sneak.

histerical! it's amazing how young they learn to be sneaks! my hubby's family likes to tell the story of their 4th child "hiding" his peas in the pocket of his cheek and forgetting about them, then going to sleep for the night with them still there.

Now that made me giggle- which is hard to do today. Kids do the funniest things. Lucy sounds much more willing to please than Aaron.

LOL! No way! I can't believe she knew to do that already! I wouldn't blame yourself too much about her not eating veggies. I think it's pretty common for them to eat veggies good when they're young, and then get picky. We're in the same boat!

Oh how familiar this story is! My little one loved everything I gave her at first. Now she is truly a toddler... that is so picky. What she likes one minute she hates the next. And I've tried that exact mixture of green beans and mac & cheese. She did the exact same thing... sorted out each individual green bean piece!
