Easy, Cute, Shrug/Bolero

My niece is going to the Mock Prom on Saturday and living out here in the "missions," was hard-pressed to find a modest dress. I volunteered to make a shrug to go with the really cute dress she found. The instructions said it would take about 30 minutes, it took me 45. I wished I had had one of these in high school and even now...I think I might experiment with some different fabrics and make a couple for myself. I found the pattern here.

***Post-Edit***

Doesn't she look beautiful:

I love shrugs! If they're not too hard to make, I would totally make one for yourself in every color! They help a lot with the whole modesty thing.

Anna, you look awesome! I was noticing how small you looked in the picture, and then I clicked on your previous post. So proud of you!

I thought of this today when I was attempting to find a dress that would work with my ever-expanding pregnant body. I found 2 dresses: a blue/brown one that should work for a little while and again after I'm back to to my normal size (i.e. without a huge baby belly); and a black/white one that is wonderful (will expand in the belly and bust probably till the end of my pregnancy) except it doesn't have sleeves. It's a tank style that covers to the edge of my shoulder and has a high neckline. Very cute - with a high (small) tie/bow at the waist (which I put above my belly). The store didn't have a short bolero/shrug - only longer cardigan-type things. I'm on the hunt for a black shrug/bolero. If I were more "gutsy", I would just try to use your pattern! lol I have fears of the needle stabbing my fingers. I've only sewn one thing: a very very simple cat costume for Halloween...made out of fleece...and it didn't matter if I messed it up. :)
