Many more than 20 minute craft...

This mobile took me the better part of two days.  I have cloud bedding for the baby and have been trying to think of some things to perk up the kids' room.  Have I mentioned I LOVE saying that?  Kids' room, kids' room, kids' room.

I plan on making two more of these to put on the wall above the crib.  Until the little guy can grab them anyway.

20 minute crafts

I like quick crafts.  My friend sent me this one and it was super simple...and cute.  Just how I like 'em.  Simple and cute.  I am a reposter.  I'm always just copying things I find and recreating them.  I know I should come up with something original...but really...there are so many good ideas out there to try.  Here is the tutorial for t-shirt pom poms.

I just pulled these babies from the oven...

and then ate a few...or seven.  Seven can be a few, right?  And they're, a few.

I hadn't heard of a Snickerdoodle until I went to college.  I made some for a guy I liked...I'm pretty sure they were rock hard.  I can't say I've ever had a hankering for one the way one might for say, a chocolate chip cookie but something about these in muffin form makes them irresistible.  The sour cream doesn't hurt either.

Here is the recipe.  These would be perfect for a brunch.

Best girls

I got to hang out with my best girls today and enjoy the best deli.
Have you ever been in the elevator there?  It was an adventure.

I still have to post about Mom awards and how I'm the reigning crafty champion...
but I haven't formulated a post about it yet...I'll get there sooner or later.

St. Patty's Preschool

Happy St. Patrick's Day!!!

We hosted preschool yesterday so we had to have a St. Patrick's Day theme.  It was so much fun!

We learned about Ireland, Shamrocks, Leprechauns, Green, and St. Patrick.
The kiddos pretended to be snakes while I beat the drum to drive them out of Ireland.
We ate a fruit rainbow.
We pulled gold coins out of the pot and read the instructions.  It's a good thing hardly any of them could actually complete a somersault since there would have been a collision.

Then, Lucky the Leprechaun came and left us some tricky clues to find his pot of gold.  We followed his footprints to the freezer, up high, and to the shower, before we found his pot of gold under the table.  What a tricky guy!

I hope your day is full of shenanigans!

Sweet Potato Fries+Loving Mel

I am starting to really love Mel's recipes.  A friend recommended her site, oh, I don't know, maybe a couple years ago now, and I have just recently started trying more of her recipes.  They've all been great so far.  When I saw this picture this morning, they looked so good they had to be made.  They were so yummy, my only problem is I only had one potato.  Well, not my only problem, Lucy, who usually doesn't like them, loved these, so I was compelled to share. They're super yum.  I added a little fry sauce-although it really wasn't needed, these babies are good on their own.

Celebrate The Boy

I'm having a boy.  I'm having a boy.  I'm having a boy.  I will love him.

I'm having a harder time attaching myself to this little guy than I did with Lucy.  Is it because he's a boy and WHAT IN THE WORLD AM I GOING TO DO WITH A BOY(?) or is it because he's the child, boy or girl, that is going to disrupt (albeit, this is what I wanted) my little mother-daughter paradise?  Am I ready for robots and dinosaurs?  Oh wait-we already play robots and dinosaurs.  I guess I am.  I have been observing in Lucy her being well suited for a brother.  I realized it on Tuesday, when she and her friend were making a tunnel and asked me to pull the couch out for them to extend their play space.  She enjoys forts and cars, dinosaurs and balls.  Maybe she has been helping me to see that this boy will fit in just perfectly with us.

Chinese take out, take two.

The other week I made Sweet and Sour chicken and it was awesome.  The whole time I was eating it though-I was thinking about how complimentary this recipe would be with my favorite Orange Chicken.  My Orange Chicken recipe has perfect flavor but comes out a bit soggy, so I knew the cooking method from the Sweet and Sour would be a great improvement.  I used this recipe and made the marinade.  I made it in the morning and refrigerated it all day. Then, after the chicken was in the baking pan (per the Sweet and Sour recipe) I added 2T Water/3T Cornstarch mix to the marinade and poured about 3/4 of it over the chicken and baked.  It was divine, even better than the Sweet and Sour.  Next, I'm going to try General Tso's.  Mmmm.

Now, lest you think all I do is cook and eat, I'd like to tell you about my other interest, my daughter.  She came home from preschool today having written her name on her paper.  After worrying about being a tiger mom during a particularly frustrating writing session, I am amazed.  I encourage-she learns.  Motherhood is an amazing thing.  Maybe next we'll work on putting the letters in order. :)

Happy Mardi Gras, Happy King Cake!

When I think about holidays, I immediately think about what kind of food I can make to go along with it.  I toyed with the idea of Jambalaya or Gumbo, but neither of those things sounded good, so as I often do, I went the sweeter route.  This was my first time making a King Cake and I think it turned out really good.  Lucy declared it, "the best cake ever."  Ha. I also make the best hot dogs ever.  Be jealous.

Anyway, I really like the idea of Mardi Gras, mostly because of my Catholic heritage, so I enjoyed making this one.  I dispensed with the colored sugar because I think mine tastes weird, so I colored the frosting.  The recipe I used can be found here.

What should I give up for Lent?  Hm...I can tell you it isn't going to be sweets.

The weekend

I know the weekend isn't over yet, but we sure packed a lot into a few days,
In addition to getting to see our new addition.

He's getting his casting arm ready.

I tried the Late Night Snack.  The ice cream part was divine but I found that by the end I was trying to avoid the potato chip chucks, they were a bit too salty for me.

Happy Bridal Shower!
We also got to celebrate with Alison-I can't believe the wedding is already coming up so quick!
