Crispy Creamy Doughnuts

Yum. Yum. Yum. Yum.

We made doughnuts last night for a Sunday night treat.  
It was a challenge and fun and delicious.

I halved the recipe thinking that the whole would be too much, and I'm glad I did.  The recipe was supposed to make 9 and I lost count at a dozen.

The tricky part was the yeast. Because you only use 2 tablespoons of water to a package of yeast it was hard to get all the yeast dissolved.  What I ended up doing was heating the milk to 115 degrees so that it would help the yeast along.  

You have to let the doughnuts have their second rise.  I was anxious to eat them so I think I fried them a little soon.  They were still delicious but would have been even fluffier had I waited a little longer.

When we were cutting them out Lucy said, "Are we going to make the Timbits too?"  Seriously?  Timbits?  We have never taken her to Tim Hortons, I'm not sure I've ever been there but they had them at her Father's Day celebration at school and apparently they made a big impression.  

When they were done, we stood in the kitchen munching and m-mm-mmming.

I used this recipe.  They really are crispy and creamy. ;)
